Liquid Phase Carbon Treatment Equipment and Systems

Activated carbon absorbers’ and systems for liquid phase applications.

We provide activated carbon absorbers and systems to filter and remove contaminants from liquid streams for industrial, municipal or commercial applications. Our systems are permanent, hard-piped as well as options for removable adsorber equipment.

Depending on the application specifics, we offer systems which are permanent, hard-piped as well as systems which are removable. With our removable systems, when an adsorber exchange is required, a fresh adsorber will be delivered from any one of our regional locations. The adsorber containing spent carbon is removed from the site using a roll-off or flat bed trailer and shipped to our reactivation facility where the adsorber is emptied, inspected and refilled. The spent carbon is reactivated and recycled.

For our hard-piped systems, we can provide a total service package that includes utilizing OSHA trained personnel providing on-site carbon changeouts, packaging and transportation of spent carbon for recycling at our reactivation facilities, where the contaminants are thermally destroyed.

The frequency of activated carbon exchange will depend on operating parameters that affect carbon loading such as flowrate, contaminant type, carbon type and other factors. We offer state-of-the-art computer modeling programs, for carbon consumption estimates and optimization of system performance.

We also feature Westates activated carbon medias for liquid phase applications.

We offer liquid phase adsorber equipment and systems for the treatment of various treatment applications. Some of the applications we specialize in include:

Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)

Manufactured by direct activation, powdered activated carbons have been specifically developed for the removal of a broad range of organic contaminants from potable, waste and process waters. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) has a relatively smaller particle size when compared to granular activated carbons and consequently, presents a large surface to volume ratio.

As such, PAC is not commonly used in a dedicated adsorber vessel, due to the high headloss that would occur. Instead, PAC is generally added directly to other process units, such as raw water intakes, rapid mix basins, clarifiers, and gravity filters.

Packaged Waste Water Treatment Plants

An biological packaged waste water treatment plants, microorganisms feed on organic materials to stabilize them to reduce biological oxygen demand and suspended solids in the waste water. In fixed growth systems, microorganisms are attached to a surface that is exposed to the water. We supply numerous systems of this type, including rotating biological contactors, trickling filters, and fixed film bioreactors. Suspended growth refers to systems where the microorganisms are freely suspended in the water. We offer a full range of suspended growth systems, including activated sludge, sequencing batch reactors, oxidation ditches, and more.

Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR)

Sequencing batch reactors treat waste water such as sewage or the output from anaerobic digesters or mechanical biological treatment facilities in a batch treatment process. Oxygen is bubbled through the waste water to reduce biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) producing a high quality effluent with a low turbidity and nitrogen levels capable of meeting Title 22 effluent quality standards.

The SBR accomplishes equalization, aeration, and clarification in a timed sequence in a single reactor basin. By varying the operating strategy aerobic, anaerobic, or anoxic conditions can be achieved to encourage the growth of desirable micro-organisms.

Gas Feed Equipment and Control

About 100 years ago, Charles F. Wallace and Martin F.Tiernan installed the first chlorinator in New York, and since, chlorine gas has been the predominant chemical for the disinfection of water.

The most economic disinfectant is available as gaseous or liquid chlorine supplied in cylinders or ton containers. Using a remote vacuum operated gas feeder, a chlorine solution is prepared on site from chlorine gas and water. This solution is used as a disinfectant.

Our chlorinators operate using the all-vacuum principle, which means that there is a vacuum from the cylinder up to the injector. All of the gas feeders are based on the worldwide proven V-notch flow control technology which provides a wide control range and very high repeatability. Control of the gas feed rate can be adjusted manually or automatically via an electric positioner.

The full vacuum gas feeder and our other models can also be used for metering carbon dioxide (CO2) for lowering the pH, and for hard water conditions of potable water. The full vacuum gas feeders are also suitable for sulphur dioxide (SO2) for dechlorination applications, and for ammonia (NH3).

As optional accessories for the automatic chlorine cylinders change over, units in various capacities are available. When switching over from empty to full chlorine containers the continuously uninterrupted gas supply is provided.

Advanced Reactive Media System

The Pironox™ Advanced Reactive Media System removes selenium, mercury and other heavy metals and metalloids from power utility, mining, refinery and other industrial water and waste water and is designed to meet NPDES limits.

Waste water discharges from industrial sources are subject to increasingly stringent state and federal metal contaminant limits, at the parts per billion or trillion levels.

To meet the growing regulatory requirements for metal contaminant removal, Evoqua has developed the Pironox™ Advanced Reactive Media System*. The proprietary process used in this system relies on inorganic oxidation/reduction chemistry, in which the driving force is catalytic reduction using an iron-bearing media that reduces the metals under carefully controlled conditions.

Copper Select Technology

Copper Select™ technologies provide reliable and cost effective treatment of CuCMP slurries produced in the integrated circuit board manufacturing industry.

The majority of the copper CMP waste waters produced have similar typical characteristics. The Copper Select™ process is being used at many semiconductor Fabs around the world to successfully treat copper-bearing CMP waste waters. The patented process removes copper from waste water without removing the CMP slurry particles. Studies have shown the process to be very successful with most commercially available copper slurry formulations

We provide water and waste water managers with a variety of chemical feed neutralization and precipitation systems, some skidded, designed for minimal operator attention.

Our Compact design neutralizes dilute or concentrated acid or alkali waste water on a continuous, gravity flow basis and features proportional addition of neutralizing chemicals and is fully automated with a PLC-based control package. Systems can be configured with one, two, or three reaction chambers, based upon the influent waste parameters. The single chamber unit is a stand-alone, cylindrical reaction tank while the two and three chamber units are skid-mounted, multi-chambered tanks.
